Well April came and went, and as usual, things never ceased to be interesting at Dewdney Animal Hospital. Dr. Walton appeared on CTV once again, and of course there were plenty of exotic and newsworthy patients demanding attention. Let’s go over some of the highlights we experienced this month!
Dr. Walton explains how to welcome a bunny into your home on CTV
Everyone knows that Easter is when bunnies get their time in the limelight, so Dr. Walton took the opportunity to explain why bunnies make good apartment pets, why they must eat hay, and why pet bunnies should never be released into the wild. Click here to watch the video.
If you are interested in adopting a bunny, we encourage you to go through the Small Animal Rescue Society.
Rescued snakes sent to Ontario to help special needs kids
Dr. Walton got up at 4am one day to get a pair of Burmese pythons, who were both rescued in BC, onto a Toronto-bound flight.
They are now on a farm in Brooklin, Ontario helping special needs kids. CBC wrote an article about it here.
More reptiles!
And snakes weren’t the only reptiles to grace Dewdney Animal Hospital this month. Dr. Walton helped this nile monitor find a lovely new home on Vancouver Island:
This adorably tiny Herman’s tortoise had a foreign body in its intestines and needed a feeding tube. It had gone two weeks without eating!
And here we had an Argentinian Tegu with a broken leg:
Some birds paid us a visit too.
Yes, that’s a falcon! And here are a few of the smaller birds who stopped in:
A social media success story!
When a cat named Misha had been hit by a car and left on the side of the road in Maple Ridge, it was Dr. Walton who got the call. Unable to transfer Misha to an emergency clinic without knowing the owner, Dr. Walton turned to the Facebook friends of Dewdney Animal Hospital for help. Within a couple of hours, the owner was found and reunited with her stabilized, lucky cat.
The local newspaper covered the story here.
