Otter at Dewdney Animal Hospital

This little girl was found in a ditch in Hammond.  After several hours alone she was brought into Dewdney Animal Hospital.  Very weak, she required hand feeding for a few days.  A diet of cat food, herring, and cat replacement formula allowed her to have a rapid recovery.  A very smart girl, she discovered a way to open her cage and decided that Doctor Walton’s supply of rodent bedding was a great hiding spot.  Fortunately for Dr. Walton, he was able to clean up the mess before his wife discovered it.  This little girl was transferred over to Wildlife rescue where she got to share a large pool with several other abandoned baby otters.

What you should know

If you come across a baby animal, realize it might not be abandoned.  Babies will often times be left for several hours while the mom is foraging for food.  If you are still concerned after several hours please contact your local wildlife rehab centre for more information.
