Well, British Columbia is really warming up now, and being surrounded by one of the world’s largest temperate rainforests, this inevitably results in more encounters with wildlife. This is also the time of year when many new-born animals are quickly gaining confidence and venturing further out into the world, so it’s hardly surprising when a few of them end up at Dewdney Animal Hospital after getting themselves into trouble!

A baby raccoon!

Here is the first baby raccoon to come in this year. It was abandoned by its mother for over 24 hours. After a few good meals, it was sent to a local rescue facility.

A juvenile hawk!

This young hawk was found on the ground. No broken bones, but it was seriously undernourished.

It required some hand-feeding before heading to a rescue organization.

A tangled up robin!

This poor robin got caught up in some plastic mesh. It was untangled and then released.

Be Bear Aware!

Thankfully this bear wasn’t a patient at Dewdney Animal Hospital. This is just a photo of a wild one Dr. Walton encountered with his daughter up in Rock Ridge. Be safe out there!
