Just Another Day on the Job
Not really. Even Dr. Walton was a little bit thrown by this patient. A 7 ft american alligator that had gotten into a fight with its tank mate. Several wound on its legs needed vet care, cleaning, antibiotics, and pain medication.
Perhaps We Are A Little Nuts
Every spring orphaned animals are brought in by clients and the SPCA. Most are not really orphaned and should be left where they are found, but if after several hours no parent is seen, please contact Wildlife rescue or the BCSPCA. Still the occasional animal will show up. This little guy came in almost dead to the world, the people that had found it had fed it cows milk and played with it for several days. It had so bonded to humans that it was unreleasible and wound up living at Dr. Waltons house for several years.
Meh, I have seen bigger
One of the joys of living in Maple Ridge is our proximaty to nature. We have mountains and wetlands, forests and rivers. This means that Maple Ridgers enjoy unparalleled exposure to wildlife, but sometimes that wildlife get a little to close to humans, as in
the case of this bald eagle that had a fractured wing secondary to a close encounter with a car. Dewdney Animal Hospital x-rayed the bird, to rule out fractures, gave it pain medication and then sent it to Rapter Rehabilitators in South Surrey.
It’s a Stinky Job, But Someone’s Gotta Do It
This young skunk accidently got itself locked into a fenced area that it wasn’t able to get out of. It had spent several days without food or water and came to us very depressed and dehydrated. A little bit of veterinary care, TLC, hand feeding and some fluids under the skin and it was released back into its neighborhood the very next day. A success story!
